About
Mariya Otake is an artist based in Tokyo, Japan. She works as a product manager for an IT company during the week and spends her limited free time creating her works. The things she thinks and feels in her hectic work life is her source of creation. Her production processes function as meditations on the interplay of expression and concealment and lead her to a deeper understanding of herself and the society that she belongs to. In doing so, she examines its subjectivity vs. objectivity and sheds light on the existence of asymmetric information, and there she finds a kind of relief and catharsis.
She offers an invitation to unsettle and release emotions that could be easily held back because of social norms, pressures, moral boundaries, and/or egos.
